Straight Talk for Safe Sleep: Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Prevention, Co-Hosted by First Candle and MiCHWA

Straight Talk for Infant Safe Sleep is an innovative, evidence-based training program for nurses, community health providers, social service agencies and faithbased groups closely aligned with families. The safe sleep guidelines developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics are reviewed in depth and, most importantly, the reasoning behind these recommendations. We discuss socio-economic and cultural beliefs present in the community that could prevent families from adopting the safe sleep recommendations and explore implicit biases that might influence the way in which information is presented. Our program is developed as a collaborative model - we are students as well as trainers, similar to the relationship the exists between care providers and families. We discuss ways in which participants can engage with families in a manner that respects their lived experiences while exploring optimal safe sleep situations and encouraging breastfeeding in a judgementfree manner

Overview Currently Blood Pressure Measurement in daily practice is far from being optimal, a situation made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic. Even in “normal” conditions BP measurement in the office is not commonly performed according to current guidelines. This situation dramatically worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic, due to difficulties in accessing healthcare facilities and to the huge workload imposed on health care professionals. In such a context, the use of home BP monitoring, best if combined with digital health technologies allowing for remote teletransmission of self-measured BP values has offered valuable alternatives. The expected outcome of this webinar is a better education on how to perform state-of-the-art BP measurement and better understand the current roles of home BP monitoring and BP telemonitoring, also through use of mobile health technologies and dedicated smartphones applications.
