Currently employed 2 years in population health outreach at a rural health center in West MI. Formerly worked 5 years as outreach and enrollment specialist at BFHC. The quality improvement team is a good fit for me, as while I love the 1:1 client service aspect of my work, I am also a data geek. I am a CMU grad with a BS in Education. I earned my CHW certificate at Muskegon Community College in 2018. My long and winding career has included 12 years in public health education/ outreach, 8 years as a patient advocate and case manager in community mental health and 10 years as a Head Start center director. Proud to be well-rounded, love a new challenge; I'm at that age where my wealth of experience and hard-earned skill sets are always helpful to my team and myself, yet I still thrive on continuous learning opportunities.
I am a Certified Peer Support Specialist and Community Health Worker at my organization. I am the go-to person for resources in the community where the disadvantaged population I serve can get help. I help connect the people I serve and bring awareness to the medical, dental, and pharmacy resources in their community. I also assist them in accessing food pantries, clothing closets, soup kitchens, personal hygiene products, furniture and household items, government cell phones, housing, utility and rent assistance, replacement ID’s, Social Security cards and birth certificates, and holiday programs for low income families. I also facilitate many peer support groups, including Healthy Living/ Tobacco Education & Recovery which I have achieved great success in getting people with mental illness to give up smoking. I practice trauma-informed care and assist in their person-centered planning process, serving a very important role in improving their health and wellbeing. I battle stigma every day as someone living with a mental illness myself and help advocate for those who haven't found their voice yet.
