Former MiCHWA Project Director Katie Mitchell, UM-SSW Professor Edie Kieffer, MiCHWA Communications Co-Chair Celeste Sanchez Lloyd and MiCHWA CHW Master Trainer Rebeca Guzman presented a poster on MiCHWA’s CHW training evaluation methods at the American Public Health Association’s 144th Annual Meeting. The poster details the process for MiCHWA’s training evaluation and provides examples of tools and reporting products used.

Detroit URC 20th Anniversary Symposium (1/21/16)

MiCHWA Project Director Katie Mitchell, UM-SSW Professor Edie Kieffer, and MiCHWA CHW Network Co-Leaders Marta Lugo-Rodriguez & Claireta Thomas presented “Translating Successful Projects to Sustained Community Health Worker Programs in Michigan” during the Detroit URC‘s 20th Anniversary Symposium. Community and academic partners from Detroit were present to learn about how MiCHWA began and how we continue to use participatory research principles in our decision-making processes.

Michigan Health Policy Forum (11/9/15)

MiCHWA Project Director Katie Mitchell presented to policymakers, providers, and health care stakeholders at the Fall Michigan Health Policy Forum. The presentation focused on who CHWs are and how CHWs work in clinical and community settings to address social determinants of health. The forum presentations can be viewed in the MHPF archive.

MiCHWA Project Director Katie Mitchell presented to providers, health system administrators and health plan personnel as part of the Upper Peninsula Health Plan‘s Population Health Conference. What a great experience learning about health and health care in the Upper Peninsula! The presentation focused on the role of CHWs and how CHWs contribute to population health.

Academy Health Annual Research Meeting (6/14-16/15)

MiCHWA partner Justin List, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar at the University of Michigan Medical School, presented a poster at AcademyHealth’s Annual Research Meeting. The poster, “Developing Common Community Health Worker Evaluation Indicators to Measure and Increase Program and Policy Impact,” gave an overview of preliminary findings and next steps from the Common Indicators Project.

Midwest Stream Farmworker Health Forum – (11/21/15)

MiCHWA Project Coordinator Katie Mitchell co-presented with MHP Salud‘s Elaine Ezekiel at the Midwest Stream Farmworker Health Forum in San Antonio, Texas. Their presentation, “Navigating the Community Health Worker Landscape,” gave a broad overview of current topics on the CHW field to conference attendees.

MICHR Partnerships for Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Symposium – (3/26/14)

MiCHWA Lead Evaluator Nick Yankey and MiCHWA project coordinator Katherine Mitchell presented “Supporting and maintaining strongpartnerships and community-academic connections through evaluation of a statewide community health worker alliance” at the Partnerships for Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Symposium on March 26, 2014. The event was sponsored by Outreach, Partnerships & Implementation Science at the Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR). The poster was second place in the faculty/staff submission category.

MiCHWA Lead Evaluator Nick Yankey presented on the development of a process, context, and outcome evaluation for MiCHWA during aCommunity Health Worker Section scientific session. MiCHWA Project Coordinator Katherine Mitchell presented on how schools of social work can be instrumental in sustaining community alliances and supporting Community Health Workers. Both presentations shared MiCHWA’s progress with colleagues from across the nation and helped MiCHWA gain further national recognition for the work being done to sustain CHWs locally. Several co-authors, including students, were also present.
Peer Michigan Conference 2013 – (10/30/13)

Katherine Mitchell from MiCHWA, Mark Witte from Network180, and Roshawnda Thompson from Spectrum Health’s Core Health Program presented during the Peer Michigan Conference in Lansing. Peer Michigan united Certified Peer Support Specialists, Recovery Coaches, and others who work in substance use, recovery, and mental illness October 28-30 for continuing education in the field of peer support work.

Michigan HIV/AIDS Provider Presentation – (7/10/13)

MiCHWA Project Coordinator Katherine Mitchell spoke to a group of HIV/AIDS providers and other service organizations statewide about CHWs and potential collaboration between HIV/AIDS outreach workers and MiCHWA. MiCHWA is excited to continue collaboration with MDCH’s HIV/AIDS Prevention Intervention Section as well as HIV providers and service organizations statewide.
CHWs and Nurses: Roles and Relationships for Population Health Improvement

MiCHWA Project Coordinator Katherine Mitchell spoke briefly to a groupof undergraduate community nursing students, community members, and national webcast participants about the role of community health workers in Michigan’s health and human service systems. The presentation was part of a larger Public Health Grand Rounds at the University of Michigan School of Public Health in collaboration with the University of Michigan School of Nursing.

Women’s Health Leadership Institute Training – (10/25/12)
CHW Marta Lugo-Rodriguez presented a new CHW 101 presentation to a group of CHWs participating in training from the Women’s Health Leadership Institute, developed out of the DHHS Office of Women’s Health. The training was the third to occur in Michigan since July and took place at CHASS Center, Inc. in Detroit, Michigan.
Michigan’s Premier Public Health Conference – (10/3/12)

MiCHWA Project Coordinator Katherine Mitchell and Steering Committee member Pat Duthie co-presented to members to the Michigan Public Health Association and the Michigan Association for Local Public Health in Big Rapids October 3, 2012.
