The MiCHWA Communications work group seeks to promote the Michigan Community Health Worker Alliance through communications internally, by supporting working groups’ media needs, and externally by disseminating MiCHWA materials to the public. The group actively supports Steering Committee activities and initiatives by developing branding guidelines, standard language, and managing MiCHWA’s Web site and social media accounts. Check out MiCHWA’s Twitter feed, Facebook page, YouTube Channel, or LinkedIn page to see just some of what Communications does.
This year, the MiCHWA Communications group will be working on the following objectives:
- Assist MiCHWA working groups with communications needs as detailed in their objectives and activities on an ongoing basis as requested
- Launch and implement a statewide campaign to increase awareness of MiCHWA and CHWs in Michigan through the Web, social media, email, and product creation and dissemination
- Update existing MiCHWA communications mechanisms through stakeholder input, review, and collaboration

Why is your working group important for achieving CHW sustainability in Michigan? Communications is the meat in my mind of the movement of sustainability. It provides a platform for the unheard heroes-those that we define as CHWs. Communications Working Group allows CHWs, regardless of title and location, to interact and connect on a multilevel format to recognize the importance and presence that CHWs have in the state of Michigan. My goal is that through various formats of social media and the drive of the website, we will continue to locate our unsung heroes.
Why are you involved with CHWs? I began my role as a CHW when I would volunteer in my high school years and that love for helping and empathetic attitude has continued through my professional growth. I believe that CHWs are an intricate group of individuals that place their communities at the forefront of healthy living. I would love to see a level of professional recognition to reflect that passion.

MiCommunity CHW Awareness Campaign
The MiCommunity Campaign features several videos of CHWs telling their stories and the stories of the communities in which they work. The MiCommunity Campaign hopes to show how CHWs are impacting their communities every day. The videos also talk about what CHWs do and why they are vital to improving health among Michigan’s unreached or underserved populations.
You can watch our first video below; our second video is now featured on the MiCHWA homepage.
